I loved this movie. It didn't blow me away like Into Darkness did, but it is still a great movie. The giant battle between the Enterprise and the swarm during the first half hour, as well as the big finale, were both awesome and the highlights of the movie. The general concept of a swarm of small battle ships rather than a big one, makes a lot more sense. And the way they defeated them was fun. The special effects were great, the performances were great, I liked the new character Jaylah, and the villains were good enough, I understood their motivations. However, somewhere in the middle the movie slowed a bit down. I understand if people find the movie a bit episodic, but I think the hate is unjustified. I feel that reviewers who gives this less than 5/10 are extremely biased trekkie fans.
I have to admit, this was my favorite Star Trek reboot movie. I think it really did follow the lines of the original series, and I loved it.<br/><br/>The major problem, for me, with this movie was Spock. No one could play him like Leonard Nimoy, but Zachary Quinto was a poor substitute. Reboot-Spock is far more emotional than any seemingly logical creature should be. So if you only watched the Original Star Trek for Spock, you may find yourself disappointed.<br/><br/>But back to the positives: Pine pulled a magnificent Shatner at his best in this film. Seriously. I would be happy to put either captain back into the chair. Uhura is as always awesome, Chekov and Sulu are cool, and really? I would watch this movie over and over.<br/><br/>The plot line was a little shaky, the villain a little ridiculous. But that is Star Trek. And we love Star Trek for its silliness, awesome aliens, and &quot;Space: The final frontier&quot; monologue. So if you love Trek, this is the best reboot movie.
Justin Lin proves a safe pair of hands at the helm of the Enterprise. Powered by a spirited sense of adventure and a nice teamwork dynamic, it’s fun, but not essential, summer viewing.

She was still aboard the Enterprise at the end of <a href="/title/tt1408101/">Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013)</a> when the ship left for its 5-year mission, stating that she was happy to be part of the &quot;Enterprise family&quot;. Star Trek Beyond takes place 2.5 years after Star Trek Into Darkness, but Carol Marcus is not referenced in the movie. According to behind-the-scenes stories, Carol Marcus was scheduled to re-appear on Star Trek Beyond in the early script stages, based on ideas from producer <a href="/name/nm0009190/">J.J. Abrams</a>. The movie was initially conceived as a direct sequel to Into Darkness and would follow-up on some of the plot elements introduced in that movie. However, during pre-production, writer and initial director <a href="/name/nm0649460/">Roberto Orci</a> left, and writing duties were taken over by <a href="/name/nm1136647/">Doug Jung</a> and <a href="/name/nm0670408/">Simon Pegg</a>. When this new team chose to take the story in a totally different direction, most of the ties to Into Darkness were also removed. Carol Marcus&#39; presence was probably omitted because they could not fit her into the new story. According to Eve herself, there is still a good possibility that her character will make an appearance in future Star trek movies.
